08-Mar-2016: Day 5

Exercise 1:

Problem:
There is an unknown voltage at the top of the branch with the current source (ie the circle with an arrow pointing upward).

Exercise 2:

Lab:
First, we will use nodal analysis to predict the circuit behavior.

MATLAB to the rescue from tedious math again.

Next, we will build the circuit and test it.

Our final table depicting a range of 10% from the actual resistamce values.

Sometimes we all need a little humor...
Engineering Dictionary:
  • Barium:  What to do with someone when they die
  • Tablet:  A little table
  • Node:  I knew it but now I don’t.

Exercise 3:

Problem:
We first solved the circuit you see below.

Immediately after, we were told that there are beautiful apps that can mimic circuits and we may use them as a cross-reference. Below is the same circuit running on EveryCircuit.

The currents checked out.

Ever wonder what the colored bands around resistors meant? Stop wondering and Google it... or keep reading. Below is a chart which works with 3 band and 4 band resistors.

Given a series of colors we read them from left to right and found their restance value without the use of a multimeter.

There is are acronyms for the correct order of value of each band color.
